Radisson Blu | ||
is situated in the terminal complex at Stansted airport. The hotel has great facilities with a health club, pool and sauna.
Location: | *** | Excellent location situated next to the terminal. |
Spotting: | *** | Ask for a high level room overlooking the airport and you will be rewarded with views of one of the Ryanair satellite terminals. A short walk will take you to the outside of the terminal where limited views of the runway can be seen (but every movement should taxi pass at some point. Room 3016 has confirmed views. |
Photos: | ** | Reasonable shots can be taken with a long lens from the room window as the video demonstrates. |
Value: | ** | Expect to pay at least £60 a room |

Located just over a mile east of the Runway 05 threshold close to the airport’s eastern perimeter. with the hotel near to the Holiday Inn Express. There is a shuttle service to the terminal if required, with a BP garage and McDonalds a couple of minutes walk away. Due to its location in a dip behind the airport access road the hotel doesn’t have any views of the airport itself, but a room on the top (3rd) floor facing west towards the 05 threshold will offer the best views of any movements . From these rooms expect to see 05 arrivals or 23 departures. Credit Royston Wood
Location: | ** | Opposite the Mid-Stay Car Park in a small service area adjacent to the A120. |
Spotting: | ** | Ask for a room on the top floor on the western side of the hotel at time of booking so that you watch the ‘aircraft movements’, although you may still have to re-confirm this at check-in as I was originally given a room on the 1st floor only. Beware that if you ask to face the airport instead you may be given a room on the northern side of the building which doesn’t look out to the approach and your views will likely be limited. Room number 343 on the top floor facing west was stayed in and all 05 arrivals or 23 departures (dependant on runway in use) were easily seen. The use of FR24 (free WiFi on site) or SBS is required to help identify some movements, although most are easily done by binoculars. On a good day, or especially at night, you can also see movements in and out of nearby Luton from one of the west facing rooms. |
Photos: | * | No good from the room due to the angle through the windows – better opportunities may be possible from outside in the surrounding area, whilst the terminal area can be reached by catching the shuttle bus. |
Value: | ** | Cost was £35 for a weeknight stay although breakfast is not included (McDonalds is close by though as an option), and if you have your own vehicle the hotel car park costs £8 per 24 hours |
Book: | Prices can be found through the Premier Inn website Premier Inn |

Ramada Hotel London Stansted
Located just over a mile west of the Runway 05 threshold, on the other side of the M11 Motorway. Unfortunately no shuttle service to the terminal, so a taxi will be required if not in your own vehicle. A room on the top (2nd) floor facing the airport will offer the best chance of seeing the movements although some of the trees in front of you will partially block the view – a room on the first floor will also give you some views albeit a bit more restricted by the trees . From these rooms expect to see 05 arrivals or 23 departures. Credit Royston Wood
Location: | ** | In the Welcome Break service area adjacent to Junction 8 off the M11 Motorway. |
Spotting: | ** | Ask for a room on the top floor facing the direction of the airport at the time of booking. Room number 113 on the first floor facing east overlooking the service area’s main car park was stayed in and all 05 arrivals on short finals were noted with the aid of FR24 (free WiFi on site), as you require FR24 or similar to give you a heads up of when they are approaching. Rooms in the south-western wing of the hotel facing south over the truck parking area should give an alternate view of the 05 approach |
Photos: | * | No good from the room due to the surrounding trees partially blocking your view. There may well be better views from outside in the surrounding service area complex if you can find a break in the treeline |
Value: | ** | Cost was between £60-70 for weeknight, with a cooked breakfast included and free parking. This hotel can be booked through the AGODA website |
