| Spotting: | ** | Ask for a high level room facing the airport. The hotel is located in between the 2 parallel runways on short final. Unfortunately the reflective coating on the windows distorts the aircraft slightly making it difficult to read off inbounds and outbounds. The hotel offers limited views of the western side of the airport terminal and of around a quarter of the UPS terminal stands.
The taxiway views to UPS are restricted so in most cases you need to see the aircraft as it lands or departs on the two runways. The evening UPS arrival rush tends to land towards the hotel on runways 35L and 35R. Traffic landing on the Right can be easily seen as it rolls out towards the hotel. There are buildings obscuring the views of landers on 35L meaning that you see traffic on short finals and then for around 2 seconds whilst vacating the runway. In hours of darkness there is enough ambient light to identify the aircraft type and see the tail logo, however flight tracking is needed to tie up the airframe. The departure rush is usually reversed, traffic departing away from the hotel on 17L and 17R. Traffic on the left is easily seen as it taxis down and lines up. On the right you literally get 2 seconds as it lines up before disappearing behind buildings. Monday to Friday nights should produce a haul of around 100 UPS aircraft so the hotel regards those who are chasing the UPS fleet. Room 690 has one large Queen bed and has confirmed views shown on the photos below. |

At night time the UPS activity can be seen on both runways, but SBS/ACARS is needed to identify the aircraft. During the day inbounds/outbounds are visible from the hotel car park and should be read off easily. |

| Spotting: | ** | Request a top floor room at the airport end overlooking the airport. Any odd number room between 825 and 835 should give views of the 17L approach. During the UPS hub around 50% of traffic will land on this runway. Anything landing on the other runway 17R can be seen from the window at the end of the corridor the higher numbered odd numbers are nearer to this window so you need 835 or 833 ideally)
Due to the location you only get traffic landing, or departing over the hotel, so if landing over, you will not see them depart again. |

Holiday Inn Louisville Airport South
Is a budget hotel located on the south side of the airport with views looking west over the approach/climb out to the parallel runways. It is generally cheaper than the other hotels above at around $100 a night. The hotel is 6 storeys high and the higher floors give views of the approach or climb out depending of the runway in use.
A high level odd numbered room is required facing the front of the hotel. The peak UPS operation takes place in the night, flight tracking equipment is required to tie up the movements however the ambient light allows you to identify the type on arrival/departure.
