 PARIS CHARLES DE GAULLE

PARIS CHARLES DE GAULLE PLANE SPOTTING HOTELS

The Hotel Hilton Paris Charles De Gaulle is very ideally placed for plane spotting at Paris between the two main terminals. When reserving this hotel try and get a room on the 4th floor or higher which end in 01 and 29 (eg 401 and 429). From these rooms you will get a great view of the two taxiways that link the two terminals and a reasonable view of the charter apron. With a little bit of patience, most movements at terminal 1 can be seen. As these rooms are corner rooms a view of the freight area is possible. By walking to the lifts you get a great view of the holding points for the Northerly runways. With a decent pair of binoculars or telescope everything will be read off. Reports suggest that the hotel staff are familiar with spotters and seem to have no problems with this.

Location *** Great location to view most of the movements at this very busy airport.

Spotting *** Expect to read off most things from the hotel.

Photos ** No actual reports of photo opportunities from the hotel however the proximity to the taxiways suggest this might be possible.

Value ** Prices start at about £80 for a weekend stay and are considerably more expensive during the week.

The Ibis Hotel  CDG/Terminal is ideally positioned opposite the charter terminal 3. The hotel is directly outside of the bus terminal and train station making connections with Orly and Paris centre simple. If arriving into the low cost terminal 3 the hotel is only a 5 minute walk.

Location *** Great location in the centre of the action. The famous spotting mound is situated outside of the hotel. The inter terminal buses stop directly outside of the hotel which means that all terminals are only a 5 minute walk away.

Spotting *** You have a choice to request a room facing the south (Air France terminal) or the North side of the airport. We recommend the north rooms as you get a view of the Northern non Air France terminal, link taxiway and the North Runways. Around 50% of the Air France traffic uses the northern runway to arrive or depart so you will not miss too much.

When requesting a north room ask for rooms 916 912 908 904 where you will get a view enabling you to read off most movements from the north side. For southbound views you are looking for room numbers 1033, 920 924 928 932 and 936 where you can read off traffic going to the Air France terminals.

Photos *** Limited photos are possible from the North side rooms with a 400 lens (see below). The excellent mound area is only a 5 minute walk from the hotel.

** Please note that a new law now considers photography at Paris CDG to be illegal therefore the mound is not of much use at the moment.**

Value *** Prices start at about £50 for a weekend stay making the Ibis one of the cheapest hotels in the central airport complex.

The Pullman Paris CDG Airport Hotel is located directly between Terminals 1 and 2. Certain rooms have views of the busy taxiways that link both terminals. Ask for a room on a high floor facing in an Easterly direction ie looking towards the Air France terminals. The hotel is in the shape of the letter "Y" so rooms facing  North may have views of Terminal 1, and rooms facing South may have views of the freight aprons, although this is not confirmed. The hotel is linked with both terminals by a complimentary shuttle bus.

Location  *** Very close to the action, located between both terminals.

Spotting  ***  East facing rooms have great views of the taxiways.
